We have come very far from the days of blind procedures like D&C in the field of Gynecology. D&C does not allow accurate diagnosis of intrauterine pathology like polyps, fibroids, adhesions, septum, or identify an area which may be sinister and needs to be biopsied. Hysteroscopy not only provides direct visual access to these diagnoses, but also allows treatment in the same sitting, without damaging the adjoining tissues.
We did not learn endoscopy in our resident training, but modern Gynecology demands proficiency in these techniques. However, it is never too late to learn. Learning is a process which must never stop. What we need are proper trainers and training facilities, which Hysteroscopy Society of India has decided to provide.
